26. The Birth of a Father: Preparing your Heart for the Big Day

I thought I was ready for birth. Bags packed, playlist made, plan in hand. But nothing prepares you for what it FEELS like to actually become a dad.

Listen on Apple Podcast

In this solo episode, I share how men can get emotionally ready for the birth. Because packing a hospital bag is easy. Preparing your heart is harder.

I break down three core practices that helped me learn the art of feeling while doing. Which is ultimately the most important dad art to master.

Listen on Spotify

First, recognize that it’s your birth too. You’re not just supporting your partner, you’re stepping into fatherhood together.

Second, prepare for the emotions that will come: fear, helplessness, pride, and awe - by talking to other dads or journaling before the big day.

And third, practice staying grounded when everything feels out of control. Because the real work of fatherhood starts the moment you learn to stay present through chaos.

In this episode, we explore:

  • How can dads become emotionally ready for birth

  • What happens when fear or anger takes over in the delivery room

  • Why emotional presence matters as much as any birth plan

  • How to stay grounded and supportive when plans change

  • What tools help men manage emotions before and after birth
